I managed to leave home without packing a laser pointer to use in my talks and classes here, so I decided to look for one here in Quibdó, even though I thought it would be fool’s errand. If I couldn’t find a thermometer…I went to one of the best hardware/variety stores in town, Almacén El Retoño” (the sprout), and they directed me to the sporting goods store next door, where sure enough they had three different models! And very reasonably priced!
In this shop, they had softballs for sale! I asked (baseball is played on the Caribbean coast, and there are Colombians in the Major Leagues in the US), and he told me there are two teams here—have to see if I can catch a game.
He also had a few fly-fishing vests for sale. Now there’s a thought—organize a party of anglers to come fishing in the streams of El Chocó!
Logré salir de casa sin apacar el indicador de laser para usar en mis charlas y clases acá, pues decidí buscr uno aquí en Quibdó, a pesar de creer que lo meas probable fuera que fue misión de balde. Si no he podido encontrar termómetro…Fui a uno de misferreterías/variedades favoritas en el pueblo, “Almacén El Retoño”, y me dirigieron a la tienda de artículos de deporte al lado, donde efectivamente tenían tres modelos distintos. ¡Y a precio muy razonable!
En este tienda, tenían softballs a la venta Pregunté (el béisbol si se juega en la costa caribeña, e incluso hay colombianos en las ligas mayores en EEUU), y me dijo que hay dos equipos acá—tendré que ver si puedo asistir a un partido.
También tenia unos chalecos de pesca de mosca. Pues, allí radica una idéa—¡organizar un grupo de pescadores de mosca a venir a pescar en las quebradas y ríos del Chocó!
